Running is a simple sport, but do not confuse simple with low-tech. Shoes are a lot like tires, they may look the same and ultimately perform many of the same functions, but they are all built different and have different purposes. If you want to run without injury you need the right shoes, and that takes expert advice. Clothing has also come leap years from the days of baggy sweatpants and oversized sweatshirts. Technical clothing can improve your comfort and your running experience overall whether you run in 100 degrees or -20.
In Cedar Falls and the surrounding area I am proud to recommend the Runners Flat, owned by outstanding runners Scott and Sarah Gall. Both of them know their sport and are committed to giving everyone personalized attention. They have the latest in technology to analyze your foot strike on a treadmill with a high speed camera system and can help diagnose problems you may be having with your shoes. They have the areas best selection of high tech running gear and hard to find specialty items, as well. The Gall’s are partnering with me in 2007 to bring some new ideas and energy to local racing and training.
In the Des Moines area Fitness Sports delivers expert technical advice and service with the atmosphere only a specialty running store can provide (they also cater to swimmers). Steve Bobbenhouse is the owner and tirelessly makes the running scene in Mid-Iowa among the best the Midwest has to offer. He has a hand in many events and directs the nationally recognized Living History Farms cross country race (largest in the USA). Steve operates the most comprehensive race calendar around and has been a tremendous supporter of Trekman Racing events.
