New records were set in the total number of finishers in the half marathon with 394 (385 runners, 8 walkers and 1 hand cycle) and the total combined finishers were 545.
What could be the best finish of any race in the Cedar Valley had to happen in the half marathon as former P2P champ Jason Flogel (West Des Moines) and this year’s Drake half champion Marty Dalton (Stuart) battled it out for every step of the 13.1 miles. It came down to the two of them sprinting into the finish line with Marty edging out Jason by barely one second. Skyler Neshiem from Des Moines finished in 1:11:57 for 3rd. The winning time of 1:09:50 is the fastest run in the state this year and the top 3 times are also the best of any half run since last year’s Park to Park race. It is great to see this caliber of runner hitting the trails in the Cedar Valley.
Record holder Robyn Friedman from Lambs Grove won her race handily in the 3rd fastest time of all time in Iowa, 1:16:54. The next closest competitor was Waverly’s Janet McCullough in 1:28:25, followed by Jaime Turilli Bill in 1:31:11. Robyn is a Team RunAblaze member and finished 9th in this year’s Olympic Marathon Trials. She holds the course record of 1:16:10 set in 2007.

The Park to Park races really are a jewel in the Cedar Valley Race schedule. Running or walking a half marathon (13.1 miles) is something many people train a long time to do perhaps only once in their life. Even those of us who train to run this sort of distance often can appreciate the fall for cooler temperatures and lower humidity levels. Both race distances have a number of advantages over other races. Read on and find out why!
All participants are encouraged to use on-line registation. It's easy, and you get a confirmation receipt you can print and bring to the race from Active.com.
