C&S autoAWARDS

People unable to stay for the awards ceremony for any Trekman race can now pick up anything won at The Runner's Flat in Cedar Falls during regular business hours.

Greetings!

Just when we think the weather is going to turn for the better it gets downright strange.  It appears as though temperatures in the 50's are almost here to stay, and not a moment too soon.  If you are like me, you are ready to put the tights away for many months!

The racing season is upon us and it is time to bring on races both big and small.  A host of local 5k's can be chosen from every weekend for the months to come and some of the "biggies" like Drake and Dam to Dam, along with spring marathons are just around the corner.  Trekman will be taking a large group to the Lincoln Marathon on May 3.

I hope you will enjoy reading about Iowa's Elite Racing Team.  Some great performances are taking place with our own Iowa athletes and I hope you will be excited for them and our chosen sport.  Information can be found at the bottom of this newsletter.

St. Pat's logoRACE RECAP

For the second time in 7 days the weather held out and the Shamrock Shuffle went off without incident.  Winner Luke Demmel had a fine race (17:42) despite running a couple blocks longer due to some volunteer confusion at a turn.  Women's champion Eva Machuca turned in her second overall victory in 7 days, winning in 20:32.  A total of 235 people finished the race and there was a sizeable turnout for the kids run once again this year.  Everyone was treated to a wonderful pancake breakfast post-race, a nice touch to the family friendly event.

Chicago 2009CHICAGO MARATHON TRAINING GROUP

Join Trekman and what looks to be a group of 20+ people train alongside one another for one of the best marathons in the world.  Training for a marathon is not easy otherwise everyone would do it.  Being part of a group means you will get support through every phase of training, and most assuredly, enjoy the long run experience far more than if you ran them by yourself.

There will be a meeting for those already signed up and those wishing to sign up at The Runner's Flat in Cedar Falls soon.  Details can be found in this newsletter.

The marathon is over two-thirds full already and will likely be closed to entries in a couple weeks.

P2P logoTRAINING GROUP

Links to the group registration page can be found in this newsletter.  Information will also be provided at the meeting for the Chicago Marathon later this month.

Trekman/Runners FlatTRAINING GROUP MEETING

DATE: April 23
DAY: Thursday
TIME: 6:15 PM
PLACE: The Runner's Flat - Cedar Falls

This meeting is for those already signed up for the Chicago or Park to Park training group AND people who plan to sign up for one of the groups.  This is not a clinic for "how to run a marathon or half marathon," but a meeting on how the training groups will operate and what people can look forward to during the training period.  It will be a large question/answer format and those signed up will receive a schedule, training tips and will get shoe advice from Scott Gall.  Group members may also shop and get 10% off any purchase.

Note: You do not have to sign up for the Chicago or Park to Park race to be a part of the group.  You may sign up and train along with us for a different race and simply enjoy the benefits of training with others!

C&S autoELITE IOWA RUNNING

Did you know Iowa has an elite running program for men and women?  We do and Trekman has become the PR person for the team in order to expand awareness and tout the accomplishments of the members.  Trekman Racing has been a team sponsor going on 3 years and members of the team have run the Park to Park half and done very well.  Female half marathon record holder Robyn Friedman is a team member and local elite runners Scott/Sarah Gall and Randy Bill are also on the team.

Sponsorships and memberships allow for these post-school athletes to travel and participate at a higher level than they might be able to without the extra support.  Click on the logo and you can visit the Runablaze website for more information.  A link to download the membership form is in the Quick Links section of this newsletter.  Anyone who signs up will get $5 off a Trekman race.  All you need to do is contact me and I will verify your membership.  Special elite race updates are sent to members periodically.
